3. UF Lily Filtration System – Structure & Operation

The Lily UF filter operates on the principle of ultrafiltration using hollow fiber membranes, capable of removing suspended solids, bacteria, turbidity, and fine contaminants.

3.1. System Structure

The Lily UF module includes:

  • PVDF UF hollow fiber membrane

  • STS 304 stainless steel housing

  • Standard inlet–outlet ports

  • Multi-function operating valve: Filter / Fast Rinse / Backwash

3.2. How the System Works

The system uses Outside-to-Inside flow, meaning:

  1. Water enters from outside the membrane fibers

  2. Contaminants such as:

    • Suspended solids

    • Mud, sand, silt

    • Rust, sediments

    • Bacteria (>4 log removal)

    • Other particles >0.01 μm
      are trapped on the membrane surface

  3. Clean water passes through the membrane wall into the fiber lumen

  4. Filtrate exits through the clean water port

  • Filter – normal filtration

  • Fast Rinse – quick flushing to remove loose particles

6. Installation & Operation Guide

6.1. Installation Requirements

  • Minimum inlet pressure: ≥1 bar

  • Can be installed indoors or outdoors

  • A drainage line is required for backwash mode

  • Recommended to mount on a stable support or frame

6.2. Installation Steps

Step 1 – Choose a suitable installation location

Place the system on a stable, dry, or outdoor-ready platform.

Step 2 – Connect the piping

Follow the labeled direction: IN → FILTER → OUT.

Step 3 – Connect the drain line

Needed for Fast Rinse and Backwash.

Step 4 – Check for leakage

Run water to ensure no leaks at joints.

Step 5 – Select mode of operation

Set the valve to FILTER to operate.

6.3. Maintenance & Cleaning

  • Fast Rinse: every 2–3 days (depending on feedwater quality)

  • Backwash: once a week or when flow decreases

  • Never operate at pressures above recommendations

  • Avoid chemical cleaning outside pH 5–9

6.4. Important Notes

  • Feedwater temperature must be below 45°C

  • Do not operate the system when the membrane is dry

  • Ensure stable inlet pressure for optimal performance

Regular cleaning and proper handling allow PVDF membranes to last several years.
